Due to high risk of injury, fatality, and the need for emergency rescue, the International Affairs Desk at Fujiyoshida City Hall highly discourages off-season climbing. Official climbing season is July and August every year.

Although official climing season ends in August, the Fuji-Subaru Line (tollway), which runs up to the 5th station stays open as conditions permit, and buses may be available year round from Fujisan Station to the 5th station. After September, services at the Fuji Subaru Line 5th station are sparse, although some shops and restaurants may stay open through the Autumn Leaves season (early November). Mountain Huts above the 5th station are closed after early September every year.
